THERE WILL BE NO RAIN
1 Kings 17
When we meet Elijah, he announces that there will be no rain for the next few years. Then we read two parallel stories in which Elijah is commanded to live outside Israel and survive off of God’s miraculous provision.
MAKE A DECISION ALREADY!
1 Kings 18
Elijah proposes a contest between the prophets of Baal and himself. When God answers Elijah’s prayer with fire from heaven, the people of Israel are convicted of their sin and acknowledge the true God.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?
1 Kings 19
When Elijah’s life is threatened he runs all the way to Mount Sinai, where Moses encountered the glory of God centuries earlier. When God asks what he is doing there, Elijah mentions his fatigue and failure and loneliness. He hopes an encounter with God will tend to these things, but it is only when he is sent back out that this exchange is complete.
